Deciphering Casco Bay Geology
This event is now full. Please email Debbie Forester at programs@hhltmaine.org to be added to the waiting list.
This event is an opportunity in the field to learn some of the methods geologists use to decipher the clues in the rocks before them in order to understand the geological past of this complicated and ancient region of New England. The emphasis will be on honing observational skills, learning to apply basic and logical geological principles, and realizing that there are things that only experts with many tools at hand and the luxury of formal training can figure out. We’ll try to answer any burning questions you may have.
Geoff Feiss taught geology, especially field geology and geochemistry, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the College of William and Mary. If schedules align, it’ll be a twofer as his wife, Nancy West, will try to join him. She has taught geology at the high school, community college, and college level as well.
