Harpswell’s Glacial History with Rachel Beane

This event is now full. Please email Phil Croteau at programs@hhltmaine.org to join the waitlist.

Join Rachel Beane, geology professor at Bowdoin College, to explore evidence of the glacial history of Harpswell. We will start at Curtis Farm Preserve for an orientation to Maine’s glacial history and to make observations of the “Pebble.” We then will drive to Graveyard Point to observe glacial striations and discuss the influence of glaciers on Harpswell’s coasts, islands, and peninsulas. Wear shoes suitable for walking on dirt trails, rocks, and gravel/mud tidal flats.

Ample parking is available at the parking lot at the entrance to the Curtis Farm Preserve at 1554 Harpswell Neck Road. More limited parking is available at the second location, 25 Graveyard Point Road, so carpooling will be encouraged.

Limited to 20 attendees. All ages are welcome. Advance registration is required.
