Watching the Winter Sun Rise at Giant’s Stairs
Join us to watch the sun rise over Casco Bay and observe the winter light glint off the rocks and ice near the Giant’s Stairs. We will gather at 6:15 a.m. at the north end of the Giant’s Stairs trail and walk along the trail toward the McIntosh Lot Preserve. While on the trail, we will experience the twilight (at 6:41 a.m.) and watch as the sun rises on the horizon (at 7:13 a.m.). No presentation, simply an opportunity to be together and enjoy the morning light.
Parking is available along Washington Avenue and at the Episcopal Chapel. Wear boots and clothes suitable for a cold morning and a snowy or icy trail. You may also wish to bring a flashlight, walking stick, camera, and hot drink.
All are welcome for this free event. Advance registration is required. If bad weather is forecasted for Saturday, January 7, then the alternate date will be Saturday, January 14.
