Why Dark Skies Matter: Astronomical Observations with Southern Maine Astronomers

Join us for a night of stargazing, education, and reveling under dark Harpswell skies. HHLT is partnering with Southern Maine Astronomers (SMA) to provide a guided tour of October skies on Wednesday, October 18 (rain date October 19). The event will be held at Mitchell Field, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The program will start with an introduction about dark skies, what people can do at home, and the citizen science of Globe at Night. Once it is dark enough, SMA will provide views through a variety of telescopes as well as a laser-pointer tour of visible constellations. Dress warmly and please, only red-light flashlights. Participants do not need to stay for the entire program, but are welcome to stay and stargaze until 10 p.m.

The rain date is Thursday, October 19.

SMA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating about astronomy and protecting dark Maine skies. For more information please click here.
