Southern Midcoast Forest Playgroup Comes to Harpswell

Thursday, May 21 from 10-11:30 a.m. Location to be announced.

Harpswell Heritage Land Trust provides fun and engaging Harpswell-based activities for the Southern Midcoast Forest Playgroup on the third Thursday of the month (excluding the summer).

The Forest Playgroup is a free, parent-facilitated program that aims to provide a space for families to explore, learn and interact outside. They meet every Thursday at 10 a.m. at different locations in the Southern Midcoast region. Weekly adventures are posted in their Facebook group. Click here to join.

All are welcome! Please wear appropriate clothing to be outdoors the whole time. We will meet rain or shine!

Intro to Birding

Classroom session: Wednesday, June 10 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Harpswell Heritage Land Trust, 153 Harpswell Neck Rd, Harpswell

Field session: Saturday, June 13 from 8-9:30 a.m. Location to be announced

Advance registration is requested. Click here to register. If you would like to come on the field trip, please also attend the classroom session. You are welcome to attend the classroom session only and skip the field trip.

This free two-session class led by Judy Marino includes a classroom presentation on the basics followed by a field trip, during which participants can practice their new skills.

This Intro to Birding session is similar in basic themes to the one offered two years ago. That is, there will be an emphasis on both print and online sources that everyone can use to discover where to find and how to identify birds. The classroom session will focus on guidelines and hints for identifying birds, as well as appropriate habitat found on HHLT preserves and pictorial examples of common birds found in Harpswell.

We hope that participants will leave with greater enthusiasm for birding and more tools for enjoying this life-long activity.
