Family Campout at Mitchell Field 2017

Sat. to Sun., Aug. 5-6

Mitchell Field, 1410 Harpswell Neck Road

Join us for a family campout right here in Harpswell! Pitch your tent at Mitchell Field, enjoy the beach and participate in fun games and activities, including a treasure hunt. Bring your own food and camping equipment. We’ll provide s’mores to enjoy around the campfire and hot water and instant oatmeal for breakfast.

Space is limited and advance registration is required. There is a suggested donation of $5-10/family to cover costs. Click here to register.

Saturday, Aug. 5 (low tide is 4:28 p.m.)

2-3 p.m.  Check in and set up tents:  You are welcome to arrive early to enjoy the beach, but please don’t set up tents until after 2 p.m. Please let us know if you expect to arrive later than 3 p.m.

4-5 p.m.  Stone Soup friendship salad with Laura McCandlish:  Bring a local ingredient to mix together for a common salad to enjoy with dinner!

5-7 p.m.  Campfire:  We will have a small campfire on the beach and will provide s’mores ingredients. Laura McCandlish will lead family round singing, and we’re still looking for guitar accompaniment.

7:30-8 p.m.  Story time:  Snuggle up in your jammies and listen to books. Book suggestions and readers are welcome.

Sunday, Aug. 6 (low tide is 5:06 a.m. and 5:07 p.m.)

8-9 a.m.  Breakfast: We will provide hot water and instant oatmeal. If you prefer to eat something else or want coffee or tea, please bring it yourself. You are welcome to use the hot water for your drinks.

10-11 a.m.  Treasure hunt:  Use a map to find hidden treasures all around Mitchell Field. Challenge yourself to find them all!

11 a.m.-12 p.m.  Check out and take down tents:  Please have tents and equipment packed in cars by noon, but you’re welcome to stay later to enjoy the beach.

  • Sleeping bags
  • Sleeping pads
  • Pillows
  • Clothing
  • Bathing suits and towels
  • Sun and bug protection
  • Dishes and silverware
  • Lunches, dinner and snacks
  • A local ingredient for the stone soup friendship salad (optional, see schedule above)
  • Water bottles and jugs (there is no potable water at Mitchell Field)
  • Toiletries (we’ll have a porta-potty, but no other facilities)
  • Flashlights
