Harpswell Heritage Land Trust’s 2015 Annual Meeting: The Barns of Maine
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments. The program starts at 7 p.m. with an update on the Land Trust’s activities and a short business meeting, followed by a presentation about the Barns of Maine. This event is free and open to all.
Our speaker, Don Perkins, sees history and mystery inside Maine’s old barns. A self-described “barnologist,” Perkins is the author of the book “The Barns of Maine: Our History, Our Stories.” He will share the history and architecture of local Harpswell barns and will highlight Maine’s fascinating farming history and the unique factors that shaped barn-building in various regions of our state. Copies of Perkins’ book will be available for purchase.
To get there from Cook’s Corner in Brunswick, follow Rt. 24 (Harpswell Islands Rd) 11.3 miles south. Look for the Orr’s Island Schoolhouse on the right.
