Listen to Voices of Conservation

During winter 2017, Harpswell Coastal Academy students explored what conservation means through listening to community members who have made a difference in the conservation of nature, history, fisheries and more.

The project was a collaboration of Harpswell Coastal Academy, Harpswell Heritage Land Trust and Holbrook Community Foundation, and it continued Harpswell Coastal Academy’s oral history collection, Harpswell Stories. The project started with Voices of the Sea in 2015, then Voices of the Working Waterfront in 2016 and Voices of Conservation in 2017.

For each project, Harpswell Coastal Academy Division II students wrote questions and interviewed community members, transcribed those interviews and identified a short and compelling audio clip to share with each other and the public. Along the way, students listened, inquired, learned, reflect and deepened their connections to Harpswell and its people.
