Nature Day Camp Locations

Curtis Farm Preserve, Basin Point Road entrance

  • Address:  104 Basin Point Road, Harpswell.
  • Directions:  Please note that there are two parking lots for the preserve.  These directions are for the Basin Point Road entrance.  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Rd at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south for 11.6 miles and then turn right on Ash Point Rd. Take your first right on Basin Point Rd and drive .5 miles to a parking lot on the right.
  • Habitat:  forest, mudflat
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • Be prepared — this is one of our muddiest locations!  For exploring the mudflats we recommend sturdy sandals, water shoes, old sneakers or rubber boots that can get wet and dirty and stay on (no flip flops, please).  For the rest of the day we recommend a spare set of sneakers or other comfortable shoes.
    • Your child may get wet! Please pack a complete spare set of clothes and a plastic bag for the wet clothes and shoes.

  • Directions:  Please note that there are two parking lots for the preserve.  These directions are for the Harpswell Neck Road entrance.  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Rd at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south for 11.4 miles. The parking lot is in a field on the right.
  • Habitat:  field, forest
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • This is one of the only locations that doesn’t involve wading in the water.  One pair of sneakers or other comfortable shoes is enough.
    • We recommend long pants for exploring the field.

Hackett and Minot Trails

  • Address:  Park at the Harpswell Historical Society, 929 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell. Click here for directions from Google Maps.
  • Directions:  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Rd at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south for 8.4 miles. We will meet at the parking lot. The trails are across the street and down private Littlefield Road.
  • Habitat:  forest
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • This is one of the only locations that doesn’t involve wading in the water.  One pair of sneakers or other comfortable shoes is enough.

Harpswell Heritage Land Trust office

Storm venue:  In the event that heavy rains or thunderstorms are predicted, we will meet at the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust office. We will contact parents the evening before camp if we change to this location.

  • Directions:  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Rd at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south for 4.8 miles. Look for a sign on the left.
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • We will be primarily indoors, though we may venture outside for a short time, so please pack raincoats and rubber boots.

Houghton Graves Park

  • Address:  1714 Harpswell Islands Road, Orr’s Island. Click here for directions from Google Maps.
  • Directions:  From Cook’s Corner in Brunswick, follow Rt 24 south for 11.9 miles. The Park is on the right. Please park by the side of the road.
  • Habitat:  forest, field, mudflats
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:

Johnson Field Preserve at Mackerel Cove

  • Address:  25 Abner Point Road, Bailey Island. Click here for directions from Google Maps.
  • Directions:  From Cook’s Corner in Brunswick, follow Rt 24 south for 14.2 miles. The field comes into view at the intersection with Abner Point Rd. Turn right on Abner Point Rd and immediately left into a parking lot.
  • Habitat:  beach, field
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • For exploring the shore we recommend sturdy sandals, water shoes or old sneakers that can get wet and dirty (no flip flops, please).  Rubber boots are not preferable because they limit how deep campers can wade.  For the rest of the day we recommend a spare set of sneakers or other comfortable shoes.
    • Your child will likely get wet! Please pack a complete spare set of clothes and a plastic bag for the wet clothes and shoes.

Mitchell Field

  • Address:  1410 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell. Click here for directions from Google Maps.
  • Directions:  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Rd at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south for 11 miles. Look for a sign on the right. Turn into the driveway and keep driving until you see signs for camp. Please drive slowly on the driveway into Mitchell Field!
  • Habitat:  garden, beach, forest, field
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • For exploring the shore we recommend sturdy sandals, water shoes or old sneakers that can get wet and dirty (no flip flops, please).  Rubber boots are not preferable because they limit how deep campers can wade.  For the rest of the day we recommend a spare set of sneakers or other comfortable shoes.

Otter Brook Preserve

  • Habitat:  freshwater stream, forest

  • Directions:  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Road at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south for 6.1 miles. Look for a parking lot on the left.

Pott’s Point Preserve

  • Address:  1985 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell. Click here for directions from Google Maps.
  • Directions:  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Rd at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south 13.9 miles to the end of Rt 123. Park by the side of the road. We will walk to the Preserve together along private Pott’s Point Rd.
  • Habitat:  tide pools, rocky shoreline, beach
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • For exploring the shore we recommend sturdy sandals, water shoes or old sneakers that can get wet and dirty (no flip flops, please).  Rubber boots are not preferable because they limit how deep campers can wade.  For the rest of the day we recommend a spare set of sneakers or other comfortable shoes.

Bowdoin College Schiller Coastal Studies Center

  • Address:  240 Bayview Rd, Orr’s Island. Click here for directions from Google Maps.
  • Directions:  From Cook’s Corner in Brunswick, follow Rt 24 south for 10.7 miles. Turn right on Bayview Rd. Follow Bayview Rd until you see signs for camp. Please drive slowly on Bayview Road!
  • Habitat:  rocky beach, field, fores
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • For exploring the shore we recommend sturdy sandals, water shoes or old sneakers that can get wet and dirty (no flip flops, please).  For the rest of the day we recommend a spare set of sneakers or other comfortable shoes.

Skolfield Shores Preserve

  • Address:  33 Skolfield Drive, Harpswell. Click here for directions from Google Maps.
  • Directions:  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Rd at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south for 4.6 mi. Turn right into Skolfield Drive and then take an immediate left into the parking lot for the preserve.
  • Habitat:  forest, muddy shoreline
  • Notes on footwear and clothing for this location:
    • For exploring the mudflats we recommend sturdy sandals, water shoes, old sneakers or rubber boots that can get wet and dirty and stay on (no flip flops, please).  For the rest of the day we recommend a spare set of sneakers or other comfortable shoes.  Please pack a spare set of clothes and a plastic bag for the wet and muddy clothes and shoes.

Stover’s Point Preserve

  • Address:  69 Windsor Lane, Harpswell. Click here for directions from Google Maps.
  • Directions:  From the intersection of Rt 123 and Bath Rd at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, follow Rt 123 south for 12.2 mi. Turn left on Stover’s Cove Rd. Take your first right on Stover’s Point Rd. Veer left. Stay straight then follow the road as it curves to the right. Turn left on a gravel road. Being very careful of the undercarriage of your car, drive right out onto the beach and look for signs. Please drive slowly!
  • Habitat:  salt marsh, pebble beach
