Geology of Potts Point with Rachel Beane

This program is now full. Please email Lindy Magness at lindy@hhltmaine.org to join the waitlist. Join HHLT in observing the rocks along the shores of Potts Point. Geologist Rachel Beane will help us to identify minerals and rock structures and share the tectonic processes that led to their formation. Please be prepared to walk on uneven wet ground. Bring a hand lens or magnifying glass if you have one, otherwise we will have a few to loan. Space for this event is limited and advance registration is required.

Dr. Rachel Beane is a geology professor in the Earth and Oceanographic Science Department at Bowdoin College.  She has conducted field research in New Zealand, Russia, Kazakhstan, Greece, the western U.S., and Maine. She is a trustee of the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust and serves as the chair of the program committee.

Drive to the southern end of Rt. 123 and park by the side of the road, at the former location of the town dock.  We will meet at the end of Rt. 123 and walk together along the private Potts Point Road to the entrance of the preserve.
