Anna M. Tondreau Bird Walk with Derek Lovitch

Join us for a birding tour with Derek Lovitch at the Anna M. Tondreau Preserve on Sunday, September 8. This is a special event, as it is our first bird walk at this preserve! The diversity of habitats throughout the preserve are sure to attract a wide range of fall migrants, from shorebirds on mudflats to warblers in the forest.

Please come prepared with good walking shoes, binoculars, water, and snacks. The program will run from 8 to 10 a.m. Space is limited and advance registration is required.

Derek and his wife Jeannette own and operate Freeport Wild Bird Supply, a retail store that caters to birders of all levels. The store serves as a vehicle for Derek to share his enthusiasm for birding, birds, and bird conservation. The store is also the home base for a growing tour guide operation. Derek’s latest book is a fully revised, second edition of Birdwatching in Maine: the Complete Site Guide, published in March of this year. He is also the author of How to be a Better Birder and Birdwatching in Maine: A Site Guide, and was the “Tools of the Trade” department editor for Birding magazine for six years. His writing has appeared in Birder’s Guide, Birder’s World, Bird Observer, Bird Watcher’s Digest, NJ Audubon, North American Birds, and others. Derek also enjoys hiking, exploring new natural areas, developing his native plant garden, good food, and beer.
