Guided Long Marsh Walk – Coastal Resiliency in Casco Bay
Join Tatia Bauer, Geoff Wilson, and HHLT staff for a walk out on Long Marsh. This is an awareness walk to see the marsh up close and learn about the Salt Marsh Restoration project beginning at Long Marsh. This exciting, multi-year restoration effort focuses on restoring natural tidal flow across degraded marsh areas impacted by historic agricultural ditching and altered hydrology. By improving drainage patterns and reconnecting tidal channels, the work aims to reduce persistent pooling, support vegetation recovery, and increase the marsh’s resilience to sea level rise.
Registration is required as this walk is limited to the first 15 participants.
About your guides:
Tatia is the Marsh Restoration Program Manager at Maine Coast Heritage Trust. She focuses on expanding the scale and impact of salt marsh restoration practices in the state of Maine by coordinating partners, finding projects, and leading within the Maine Tidal Marsh Restoration Network. Luckily, this also involves exploring salt marshes and monitoring project success through time.
Geoff Wilson is a founding member of the SMARTeams, a group of salt marsh researchers, managers, and practitioners, who have been leaders in decoding the impacts of salt hay agriculture on salt marshes and the methods to restore them. He owns and manages Northeast Wetland Restoration and is the Sanctuary Manager for Bear Creek Wildlife Sanctuary.
