HHLT is launching a citizen science project to record a biological inventory of our preserves and we need YOUR HELP. For one week, each month, help us by heading out to the target preserve and record as many observations of life as you can using the Seek or iNaturalist App by iNaturalist.

What is a BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz is a citizen science inventory of as many species as possible in a specific area over designated period of time.

Why BioBlitz?

BioBlitz is a fantastic way to engage with our preserves while helping collect important data.

Can I use the Seek App by iNaturalist?

Yes, you can use the Seek App. Just make sure to sign into iNaturalist from Seek. Then after your observation, scroll down and click “Post to iNaturalist” You will also still need to navigate to iNaturalist beforehand and join the current HHLT BioBlitz project (see below for the current project). 

Do I have to use a smart phone?

No, you do not. It does make the data entry process smoother but it is not necessary. Follow the steps below under “No App, No Problem”.

Download the app and create an account here

Join the current HHLT BioBlitz Project below. 

November Project – Otter Brook BioBlitz

  1. Open the app
  2. Click on the Camera icon
  3. Take a photo of the organism
(1) Pick up or print a BioBlitz form

You can make you observations pen and paper. Downland and print the following form or pick one up from the HHLT office. 

Record your observations on the BioBlitz form. 

  1. Create an iNaturalist account here.
  2. Join the current HHLT BioBlitz Project. See below.
  3. Click the green upload button on the top right side of the page. 
  4. Click “More Import Options”
  5. Click “Old observation form” 
  6. Fill out the fields for your observation. 

If you can’t enter your observations yourself, drop them off at the HHLT office.
