We are looking for an individual with good communication skills and an ability to work independently. HHLT OVERVIEW
Harpswell Heritage Land Trust (HHLT) is a community-based nonprofit founded in 1983. HHLT’s mission is to preserve and protect Harpswell’s natural resources, cultural heritage, and access to the outdoors now and forever through conservation, stewardship and education. By balancing conservation with public access, the land trust works to ensure the long-term health of Harpswell’s land and waters for generations to come.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Stover’s Point Preserve Weekend Monitor is responsible for greeting visitors prior to entering the preserve and educating them about important guidelines to follow during their visit. The Stover’s Point Preserve Weekend Monitor reports to the Lands & Stewardship Director. This is a part-time, seasonal position.
Duties include:
- Community Relations – Represent HHLT in a professional and friendly manner. Welcome visitors to the preserve, answer questions and develop rapport with regular visitors and neighbors. Communicate when the preserve is closed due to reaching capacity.
- Education About Preserve – Communicate with visitors about the preserve, what to expect during their visit and important preserve guidelines prior to entering the preserve.
- Reporting and Record-keeping – keep track of approximate number of visitors and whether they are first time or repeat visitors. Keep notes about use, issues, and concerns. Provide weekly summaries to the Lands & Stewardship Director. Report problems in a timely manner to the Lands & Stewardship Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Good communication skills
- Ability to be friendly and welcoming to a wide range of visitors
- Ability to explain preserve rules and guidelines clearly and concisely
- Ability to take detailed notes and regularly log visitor data
- Ability to work in variable weather including hot, sunny and/or windy conditions
- Must have reliable transportation
LOCATION AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Stover’s Point Preserve is a coastal preserve in South Harpswell. This position will work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions. This position involves standing to talk with arriving visitors. Sitting may be possible during periods when no visitors are arriving.
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
This is a seasonal, hourly position working 8 hours per week at a rate of $16 per hour. Working hours are 11:00am-3:00pm Saturdays and Sundays June 27th through August 30th. Schedule may be modified or canceled due to bad weather.
