Day 49: Make your own simple journal and a nature riddle
Outdoor activity ideas and inspiration
From mid-March to the end of May 2020, Harpswell Heritage Land Trust (HHLT) posted a simple outdoor activity idea and nature riddle for kids every weekday. Some days we also posted other resources, like downloadable chapters of the Junior Ranger Activity Book.
Created to support parents who found themselves homeschooling during the COVID-19 pandemic, these activity ideas are a great jumping off point for any outdoor adventure. Click here for a list with links to all 50 activity ideas.
Nature riddle
Many Native American tribes, including the Sioux, felt this animal embodied wisdom or spirit powers, allowing it to outwit larger animals such as coyotes or wolves. Click here to read more about this common and fascinating animal.
Make your own simple journal
We make these nature journals with all our campers at Nature Day Camp. They are simple to make, functional and attractive!
- Gather your materials:
- Card stock for the cover (folded, with two holes punched, see photos below)
- Blank paper for the pages (folded, with two holes punched, see photos below)
- Rubber band
- Stick
- Put your pages inside your cover so the holes match up.
- Flatten your rubber band and push one end through one of the holes in your cover and pages. Put your stick through the rubber band.
- Stretch the rubber band to the other hole in your cover and pages and push it through. Put your stick through the rubber band.
- Fill your journal with stories, drawings, nature observations and more!
