Guided Nature Walk: Vernal Pools
This event is now at capacity. If you would like to be added to a waitlist, please email Lauren Dumont at lauren@hhltmaine.org or call at 207-721-1121.
Dr. Gregory LeClair will lead us on a guided nature walk at Hackett Trail to learn more about vernal pools. We will be visiting a vernal pool, where we will have an opportunity to learn about the ecology of these outstanding habitats. Many people are aware of the role freshwater wetlands play in preserving habitat and protecting water quality but have less understanding of the importance of vernal pools, which serve as reservoirs of fresh water that will seep into soil to refresh the water table. If we are lucky, we will be able to encounter some of the species that call these pools home. Please come prepared with clean hands, boots, and any other equipment you need to move comfortably over uneven terrain in springtime.
This walk is limited to 20 people.
Dr. Gregory LeClair is a wildlife biologist and founder of Maine Big Night, a nonprofit focused on protecting migrating amphibians around the state.
