[Wait List] Horseshoe Crab Adventure: Living Fossils in Harpswell
This program is now full. If you would like to be added to the waitlist, please email Lauren at lauren@hhltmaine.org.
Horseshoe crabs are over 450 million years old, and each year, as coastal waters warm, they migrate from deep ocean habitats to estuaries and shorelines to spawn. Join us at Skolfield Shores Preserve to observe this remarkable migration and learn about these ancient creatures, their ecological importance, and their extraordinary contributions to modern medicine. Dr. Elizabeth Walker, Maine Master Naturalist and PhD oceanographer, will lead this walk along with fellow Maine Master Naturalists Josie Quintrell and Michael Birmingham. We will walk the short trail to the cove and look for horseshoe crabs. This exploration is suitable for curious people of all ages. Hope you can join us! Wear comfortable clothes and water shoes as we are likely to get wet.
You can read about these amazing creatures in Ed Robinson’s 2021 Nature Notes article.
This event is limited to 20 participants. Rain date is June 2.
