Vernal Pool Walk for Kids

Step into the secret world of a vernal pool—nature’s temporary springtime pond bursting with life! On this kid-friendly nature walk, we’ll search for wiggling salamanders, jelly-like frog eggs, and other tiny creatures that only appear for a few magical weeks each year. With nets, curiosity, and sharp eyes, young explorers will discover how these seasonal pools become nurseries for amazing wildlife. Along the way we’ll learn why vernal pools are some of the most important—and most hidden—habitats in the forest. Come ready to splash, explore, and uncover the mysteries of spring!

This walk is limited to 20 participants.

This program is part of a larger series focused on Vernal Pools, funded by the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership’s Community Grant Program. A big thank you for their support!
