Volunteer

In addition to the time and efforts of its Board of Trustees and its staff, HHLT depends upon its volunteers to accomplish many of its tasks, including:

  • putting together mailings
  • writing articles and providing photos for newsletters
  • planning and putting on events and programs
  • serving on committees
  • providing refreshments for events
  • leading walks and giving talks
  • assisting with Nature Day Camp and other programs with children
  • getting involved in its Community Gardens Program
  • helping with trail construction and maintenance
  • monitoring its easements
  • fundraising and grant writing
  • taking on special projects

Community Stewards

We are currently seeking Community Stewards! Volunteer Community Stewards are essential to caring for the preserves and trails entrusted to Harpswell Heritage Land Trust (HHLT). Community Stewards work closely with HHLT staff to ensure that conservation land and trails are safe, well-maintained, and inviting places for visitors. They are matched with a property, which may be land owned by HHLT or a trail on a conservation easement that allows public access. Community Stewards visit the land on their own time to check trail and/or preserve conditions, perform trail work, pick up trash, fill map boxes, and document their activities.
