Outdoor activity ideas and inspiration

From mid-March to the end of May 2020, Harpswell Heritage Land Trust (HHLT) posted a simple outdoor activity idea and nature riddle for kids every weekday. Some days we also posted other resources, like downloadable chapters of the Junior Ranger Activity Book.

Created to support parents who found themselves homeschooling during the COVID-19 pandemic, these activity ideas are a great jumping off point for any outdoor adventure. Click here for a list with links to all 50 activity ideas.

Make your own forest kitchen

My kids love pretending to cook and do chores (if only they loved actual chores!). You can set yourself up for hours of fun this summer by making your own forest kitchen. Maybe you have some old unbreakable pots, bowls, baking dishes, utensils and other kitchen gear that you’re ready to retire. Goodwill is also a great place to outfit your forest kitchen for cheap. You can use anything for a stove, counter and chairs: old crates, rocks, logs or whatever you have kicking around.
